Application Process
Applications for judging positions are open to all, but the Canadian Barbecue Association reserves the right to choose the judges that best reflect the nature of the three day event. The amount of judges chosen for the event will rely solely on the number of teams that enter to compete in the event.

Each application will go through a screening process to determine whether or not the CBA feels as though you, the applicant, would be best suited for judging at the 5th Annual Canadian Open Barbecue Championships. All prior judging experiences, qualifications and previous positions (onsite and/or blind) will be taken into consideration, along with any personal food allergies or team relationships.

Once you, the applicant, have submitted the online form, a reply email will be sent back to you that will state that your application form has been received and your name and contact information have been added to the database of potential judges.

It will be your responsibility, as the applicant, to continue to check the CBA web site, www.canadianbarbecueassociation.com, for any updated and current information regarding judging at the event in Barrie.

Approximately one month prior to the event, all applicants will receive an email that will state either “yes” you have been chosen as a judge or “no” you have been declined through the screening process. If you are chosen as a judge, it will then be your responsibility to respond to the email immediately confirming your attendance for the event (Saturday & Sunday and/or Monday).

Lastly, a final email will be sent to you stating that your attendance has been confirmed for the day(s) that you provided. Attached to this email will be a timetable for the event that includes all meetings and turn in times, along with a map with driving directions to the event. At this point, should you have any further questions please contact info@canadianbarbecueassociation.com.

Upon arrival, if chosen to be a judge at the Canadian Open Barbecue Championships in Barrie, you will register/check in at the front desk where you’ll be informed at that time whether you will be an onsite or blind judge for that day. Due to the overwhelming amount of judges a rotation schedule for onsite judges may be used, therefore you might be a blind judge on Saturday and then an onsite judge on Sunday.
* Important: Note that by accepting the terms below, you understand that the CBA has the right to reserve judging positions (onsite and/or blind) based on the judge’s screening process and prior judging experiences. The CBA cannot guarantee that you will have the opportunity to become an onsite judge at the event.
